Welcome to Killarney!

Picture
Dear Friends in Harmony,

Céad Míle Fáilte go Cill Airne!

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Killarney, Co. Kerry (affectionately known as ‘The Kingdom’!). We are thrilled to celebrate the 30th year of the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers in this exciting location. Killarney is a wonderful town set in the ‘Wild Atlantic Way’. It is a very popular tourist destination for visitors from both home and abroad. It is surrounded by magnificent scenery, well worth viewing if you have time. Sights worth visiting include The National Park, Muckross House, The Lakes, the Gap of Dunloe... and there are many more.

On behalf of IABS I wish to welcome our visitors from abroad – UK, Sweden, Holland, Lanzarote, Finland to name a few. A very special welcome to our special guests for the weekend – Killer Whales and Lemon Squeezy. You are definitely ‘in for a treat’ - Killer Whales from Sweden is a mixed quartet who got together in 2018 and scored 89.3% in their first competition! Lemon Squeezy, also from Sweden, have gone from strength to strength since their beginnings in 2010. Some of you may remember them from their last visit to IABS in Ennis 2014.

We are honoured to have many Past Chairs of IABS with us this weekend to celebrate our 30th Anniversary.
I would like to thank this year’s committee who work so hard during the year to ensure the success of Convention. A special thanks to those who assembled historical data from the past 30 years. We are very appreciative of the staff of the INEC and the Gleneagle Hotel who have made us so welcome on this, our first visit to Killarney. Our thanks also to Kerry Tourism and Killarney Convention Bureau for their support.

Finally, can I wish all of you who are competing the very best of luck. As I said last year, make sure you allow time to renew old friendships and make many new ones — don’t forget the Afterglows!

I hope you enjoy the wonderful surroundings that Killarney has to offer.

In Harmony,

Liz Quinlan
Chairperson, IABS
